In terms of historical importance and cultural heritage there are not many cities in the United Kingdom that can rival the North Yorkshire city of York, in central England. Over the years, York has been populated by a large variety of rulers, from Romans, to Vikings, to Normans and various families during the days of the English Civil War. All these different ruling families and races have played a huge part in shaping York into what it has become today. It has also meant that York is one of the most popular tourist destinations in England.

There is so much to see and do in York, it is hard fitting it into a book, let alone a short article. However, we have narrowed down the list and chosen the best few sites to see in York and detailed them for you below.

It is impossible to go to York and not notice at least a part of York Castle. The city was established inside a Roman settlement that first grew inside the walls of York Castle, though the years of wars, flooding and other events have turned the castle into a sprawling complex of buildings all housed inside the main walls. Two of the best sites to see are the Norman keep, now known as Clifford’s Tower, and the walls of the castle which surround the center of York. Some other attractions to note are the Crown Court buildings and the York Castle Museum.

If you find yourself with time to spare and are eager to explore York for yourself of foot then the first place you should head to is the Snikelways. The Snikelways is the name given to an area of York that comprises of lots of small winding footpaths and alleyways, many of which lead to the old market areas of Pavement and St. Samson’s Square. The alleyways can only be passed through on foot and many are surrounded by some beautiful historic architecture and paved with classic cobblestones.

If you are visiting York with your family, or even if you are just interested in some of the history that makes up the city, you should not miss out on a trip to the Jrvik Viking Center. Attracting more than 16 million visitors per year, on average, the Jrvik Viking Center is a fantastic trip back into time that takes you on a journey through the streets of York as it would have looked like in 866 AD when the Vikings took over the city. It is certainly a place not to miss for all the family and children absolutely love it.

Birmingham in England might be the second largest city in the country, but it often gets a bit neglected in terms of attention. Seen as something of an industrial city in decline, it’s actually a vibrant, exciting, multicultural place with lots to see and do. One of the best attractions in the city is the extensive canal network. Birmingham has more canals than Venice, and lots of them are lined with great restaurants, shops and other attractions that tourists and locals alike are sure to love.

Birmingham also offers the cultural attractions you’d expect from a large city. For example, you can see some great theatre at the Hippodrome theatre. There’s also one of the best classical music venues in the country – the Symphony Hall – where you can regularly see the renowned City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra give performances. The bars also regularly feature some great free jazz concerts. Nearby is also Birmingham Museum, where you can go and see a celebrated collection of pre-Raphaelite art.

Next on the list is the Jewelry Quarter. This is one of Birmingham’s most famous attractions and is an historic part of the city as well as still being one of its current economic hubs. You can learn a lot more about the heritage of the city and rediscover some long-lost landmarks by following the cultural trail that works its way around the Jewelry Quarter. You will also find street after street filled with jewelry shops – as the name suggests – making it a great place to do some shopping.

Birmingham is also one of the most multicultural places in England, making it the perfect place to go to try out lots of different types of cuisine. It is particularly famous for its curries and Birmingham and the surrounding areas are often known as the ‘balti triangle’. There are lots of curry houses and restaurants based on Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi cuisine, to name just a few. There is also a large Chinese population and the Chinese Quarter also has some great restaurants.

Lastly, it’s always a good idea to go out and explore the countryside that surrounds Birmingham: it might be a large city but there is a lot of green space around it, making it a good base for exploration. For example, hop on a forty-five minute train ride and you can be in Stratford upon Avon, the home of Shakespeare. This is well worth a trip, as are some of the nearby properties that are owned by the National Trust, such as Baddesley Clinton and Packwood House.

First Time Going To A Weekend Festival? Apr 14

Notice: Use of undefined constant user_level - assumed 'user_level' in /home/restjunction/www.restjunction.com/wp-content/plugins/ultimate-google-analytics/ultimate_ga.php on line 525

It’s getting to that time of year when weekend music festivals are becoming much more prolific. For all men heading off to a festival, here are a few important things you should remember to take with you when you go. Firstly, it’s a really good idea to take a pair of rubber boots with you, as these are ideal for all those muddy festival fields. They’ll also help to save your favorite pair of sneakers from almost certain ruin, so are a music festival must-have.

You can also never predict the weather at music festivals and even the nicest summer’s day can turn rainy in an instant, so taking some waterproof clothing is a really good idea. This will help to keep you dry if the weather does turn nasty and it also cuts down on the amount of other clothing you need to take. Another benefit of waterproof clothing is that it doesn’t matter if it gets dirty as you can generally just wipe it down with a sponge.

A good tent is also a really good item for a weekend music festival, particularly if you are looking to stay overnight in order to soak up the atmosphere and get the most out of your trip. Something brightly colored and easy to spot at a distance is probably a good idea to avoid you getting lost in a sea of identical tents. A tent also gives you good base for the festival and somewhere to leave your bags while you’re away watching bands.

Not all festivals allow you to take in food and drink with you because they want to try and encourage you to buy things from their chosen sponsors and providers, but if you check into it and find you are allowed to take food in with you, then this can be a really good idea. Festival food and drink can be expensive and there are often long queues, which eats into valuable band-watching time. Taking your own food means you’ll spend less time queuing and less money.

Finally, if you are attending a weekend music festival then it’s highly likely there is at least one band you really want to see. Get into the spirit of things by taking stuff related to your favorite groups or artists, such as band t shirts or hoodies. This is also a good way of identifying fellow fans, so even if you get a bit lost in the crowd, you’ll always be able to spot someone you have something in common with and get a conversation started.

There’s no time like the present to plan your next vacation in the sun, and that includes your wardrobe choices. So, what should go in your suitcase? A good place to start is the sarong. This is great for folding up small in your luggage and covering up on the beach. Plus, it comes in a variety of styles from long to short, from sheer to soft linen, so you can choose the one that’s right for you. Make a statement with beads and sequins – maximum style impact.

Another great way to cover up on the beach while still looking feminine is with a short dress. Go for lighter fabrics such as cotton or linen to keep you cool on hot days and, if you burn easily, choose something that covers your shoulders. Something loose and floating is great for throwing over a swimsuit if you’re off for lunch at a nearby restaurant and can easily take you from day to night without having to change your clothes. Plus, they take up hardly any space in your luggage.

So, you’ve got your sarong and your dress sorted and now you need something to go with them. Pretty, summery shoes are a great addition to any beach outfit. Choose a couple of really good pairs that are comfortable and go with anything so you can keep your luggage down. Flip flops or sandals with quirky design features such as sequins are always great for the beach, and if you’re looking to dress up for trips out, wedge heel are a great way to go – comfortable and stylish.

Another vacation essential that no woman should be without is a decent hat. These not only look great, but they can prevent you from getting sunburn or getting too hot. Something with a wide brim is great for protecting you from the sun and if you choose a floppy style, it will easily fold down small to fit into your luggage or beach bag. You could spice up the style by tying a colorful silk scarf around the head or perhaps put your own stamp on the classic cowboy hat.

So you’ve got your beachwear and accessories – you just need to make sure you get the color right. Sunny vacations are a great time to wear bright, vibrant shades you wouldn’t normally wear every day. Pretty pastels in blue, green and lilac are always great for a versatile day-night look, but the main thing is to make sure you pick colors that look good on you and will flatter your inevitably gorgeous tan. Have fun and don’t forget the sun lotion!
